This week, from April 21 to 25, the 81st Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is taking place at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. This Commission session serves as a platform for ESCAP member States to examine and discuss key economic and social issues that enhance regional cooperation, as mandated by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the UN's five main bodies. Under the theme "Regional cooperation for resilient and sustainable urban development in Asia and the Pacific," the 81st Session aims to encourage inclusive urban growth and foster proactive measures toward achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It brings together government leaders, ministers from across the region, and other important stakeholders to share insights on current and emerging policy challenges related to inclusive and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific. During Fiji's national statement on the first day of the session, Hon. Nalumisa emphasized the importance of solidarity, coordinated efforts, and shared responsibility in tackling the region's challenges and ensuring collective prosperity. Hon. Nalumisa also reaffirmed Fiji's dedication to promoting equitable and sustainable development in the Pacific, facilitating progress in line with the 2030 Agenda.
