During her time in Melbourne, the Governor-General and her team had the honor of being invited to the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) at @csirogram, recognized as one of the most advanced biosecurity facilities globally.

At this location, they were afforded a unique opportunity to receive insights from some of Australia's leading scientists, whose research is vital in protecting the nation from emerging disease threats and ensuring the safety of our multi-billion-dollar livestock sector. Their groundbreaking work includes the identification of the Hendra virus, establishing a connection between SARS and bats, and enhancing our knowledge of Avian influenza.

This represents the highest level of care and impact, conducted within CSIRO, our national scientific organization, which has dedicated nearly a century to ensuring Australia invests in the intricate research necessary for a secure and prosperous future.

During the visit, the Governor-General engaged with the remarkable scientists and laboratory technicians involved in:

🦠 The Zoonosis Suite, where some of the most dangerous diseases are managed.

🦟 The Insectary, where research on mosquito-borne diseases is conducted.

🐖 Rapid response initiatives for African Swine Fever.

🐦 Early detection and management of Avian Influenza outbreaks.

Gratitude is extended to the entire team for their vital contributions each day, with special appreciation to CSIRO Chief Executive Dr. Doug Hilton AO, Board Chair Ming Long, Director Dr. Debbie Eagles, Deputy Director Dr. Dwane O'Brien, Operations Director Dr. Allen Roberts, and Biorisk Manager Dr. JT Paulley for facilitating such a significant and impactful visit.
