Reports indicate that Manoj Kumar passed away in Mumbai due to heart-related complications. Affectionately known as "Bharat Kumar," a title reflecting the patriotic themes of his films that emphasized unity and national pride, Kumar significantly impacted Indian cinema. The term "Bharat" is derived from ancient Sanskrit, meaning India. Modi stated that Kumar's work sparked a "spirit of national pride."

Kumar was also affiliated with Modi's ruling Hindu nationalist party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Debuting in the 1950s, the legendary actor received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest cinema honor. He is especially remembered for his iconic patriotic films such as "Upkar" (1967), "Purab Aur Pachhim" (1970), and "Kranti" (1981), among many others.
