MINISTRY OF TOURISM AND CIVIL AVIATION COLLABORATES WITH UNDP TO ENHANCE TOURISM RESILIENCE

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MTCA) has joined forces with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific Office in Fiji to bolster resilience within Fiji's tourism industry.

On April 1, the Ministry and UNDP formalized their partnership through an agreement that aims to harmonize tourism development with ongoing environmental, climate, and disaster challenges. This collaboration will also focus on ensuring that tourism provides fair benefits to local communities while preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

The initiative includes the establishment of two government roles dedicated to capacity building, enhancing community-based tourism, and supporting the execution of Fiji's National Sustainable Tourism Framework for 2024-2034, emphasizing risk-informed approaches.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon Viliame Gavoka, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, "This collaboration with UNDP represents a crucial advancement in protecting Fiji's tourism sector from future adversities. By integrating resilience into our governance frameworks, we are safeguarding livelihoods and ensuring that our natural and cultural assets thrive for future generations."
