Your aspiration to spark curiosity, foster discussion, and instigate transformation is precisely what we require. The mission of the museum, as well as our collective responsibility, is to safeguard and comprehend both nature and culture. It revolves around the richness of life on our planet, the awe it inspires, and the perpetual intrigue surrounding its origins and the reasons for its beauty that captivates us all.

The Governor-General was delighted to announce her Patronage of the Australian Museum during a gathering with key supporters at Admiralty House, in anticipation of the Museum's upcoming 200th anniversary, which is less than two years away.

Founded in Sydney in 1827, Australia's inaugural public museum currently boasts a collection of 22 million objects and specimens, greatly valued by its 24,000 Museum Members. The Governor-General reflected on the significance of the museum to its members and all visitors. She shared her personal experiences, from frequent visits as a young mother to recently accompanying her 90-year-old father to a virtual reality exhibition, as well as her time as a former President of the AM Trust.

The Governor-General extended a warm welcome to AM Trust President Hartzer and Director and CEO Ms. Kim McKay AO, both of whom delivered remarks before the audience enjoyed a poignant opera performance by renowned Australian soprano Amelia Farrugia, accompanied by the Solisti String Quartet.
