The Governor-General attended the inauguration of the Australian War Memorial's new Main Entrance alongside Matt Anderson PSM, the Director of the Memorial. This entrance is designed to honor tradition while embracing a modern aesthetic.

Bathed in light from the stunning oculus, the Main Entrance serves as a welcoming space that invites, challenges, and inspires visitors to pay tribute to those who have made sacrifices for the nation, to explore Australia's military history, and to recognize the connection between past generations and the contemporary defense force.

Within the newly designed spiral stairwells of the Memorial, two sculptures crafted by local glass artist @annetteblairglass, titled 'Quiet skies, as the sun rises' and 'Quiet skies, as the sun sets', enhance the area, creating an atmosphere of remembrance and tranquility.

The occasion was particularly significant as it included Glenda Humes and Dorothy Burton, the daughters of Captain Reg Saunders MBE, the first Aboriginal Australian officer commissioned in the Australian Army. Captain Saunders' legacy is integral to the narrative of Australian service and sacrifice, which is beautifully represented in the Main Entrance through his photographs and medals.
