CTV News Edmonton's Nav Sangha has the latest updates. On Friday, snowfall persisted in the Edmonton metropolitan area and across central Alberta, exacerbating the situation. According to a police news release, "Eastbound traffic on Highway 16 is currently being redirected, and westbound traffic is reduced to one lane. Authorities are reporting extremely poor road conditions in central Alberta, and travel is not advised." RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Troy Savinkoff confirmed that one crash on Highway 16 resulted in "multiple serious injuries." Additionally, a Red Arrow bus transporting workers was involved in a collision on Highway 28, Savinkoff noted. As of 2:30 p.m., northbound traffic was being diverted, but Savinkoff anticipated that the scene would be cleared by Friday afternoon. "It's crucial to drive according to the conditions when visibility is low, as you may not see hazards approaching," Savinkoff cautioned. "Once you do see an issue, poor road conditions and visibility can hinder your ability to slow down or stop in time, which can worsen the situation.
" The series of accidents follows the closure of sections of Whitemud Drive and 23 Avenue in Edmonton on Thursday evening due to traffic disruptions caused by the winter weather.
