During a visit to Greenland, Vance reprimands Denmark while Trump asserts that the U.S. should acquire the island.

The vice president criticized Denmark for not allocating more resources to regional security, stating they have "not done a good job" for the people of Greenland.

He reiterated President Donald Trump's commitment to exert influence over the island, emphasizing that this should be accomplished by engaging with Greenland's residents rather than through military force. Vance pointed out that both Russia and China are expanding their presence in the region, urging that the world cannot afford to "bury our heads in the sand—or in this case, in the snow." Trump informed reporters at the White House that "we have to have Greenland." Greensland residents shared their concerns about Vance's visit, with several expressing to the BBC that his presence seems to pose a threat to the island. In response, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told the BBC that Vance's remarks regarding Denmark were misleading, affirming that "for many years, we have stood side-by-side with the Americans in very difficult situations.
