In the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, the Governor-General engaged in discussions with mayors and deputy mayors from the affected communities. Following the event, she graciously accepted their invitations to visit the region, where she met with local residents, councils, disaster response teams, and emergency services focused on recovery efforts.

Her purpose was to listen and comprehend the challenges faced by the residents of the Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Ipswich, and Lockyer Valley, with the intention of bringing their perspectives back to Canberra to enhance support for communities impacted by severe weather.

Additionally, she aimed to express her gratitude to those who have stepped forward in local neighborhoods, operational hubs, and recovery centers, prioritizing mutual care above all else.

⛰️ On Tamborine Mountain in the Scenic Rim, the community is uniting once more, having scarcely had time to recuperate from the previous storm. The recovery center is currently assisting over 100 residents daily as they work towards rebuilding their lives.

🏖 On the Gold Coast, teams and local businesses are tirelessly working to restore miles of beaches and coastline, welcoming visitors, and revitalizing the local economy. (They are prepared for your arrival!)

🏡 In Ipswich, the spirit of neighborly support is palpable as residents clean up and restore homes in the most severely affected areas, helping one another through the emotional toll of the cyclone.

🚨 In the town of Gatton within the Lockyer Valley, a 24-hour operations center has emerged as a model of efficiency and reliability, setting a standard for councils nationwide.

This is merely a snapshot; there is much more that cannot be encapsulated in a single post.

The Governor-General will remember the individuals she encountered—those who, despite enduring long and challenging days, took the time to share their experiences of struggle, resilience, and strong community spirit with her.

Our gratitude extends to @qldgovernor, @cityofgoldcoast, @mayortomtate, @tomsharpscenicrim, @ipswichcitycouncil, @lockyervalley_regionalcouncil, @queenslandreconstruction, @qldses, @qldfiredepartment, @qldpolice.
