Mali, alongside Burkina Faso and Niger, has once again united in its opposition to France. On Tuesday, Mali announced its decision to withdraw from the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), following the earlier actions of Burkina Faso and Niger.

The Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed that the nation could no longer be part of an organization whose actions conflict with its constitutional principles, which emphasize state sovereignty. This decision aligns with the recent withdrawals of Burkina Faso and Niger, both of which, like Mali, are governed by military regimes and have severed ties with France in pursuit of greater autonomy.

As founding members of the OIF, these three countries have criticized the organization for its selective imposition of sanctions and for undermining their sovereignty, labeling it a politically motivated instrument.

This withdrawal occurs against a backdrop of escalating tensions between these nations and France, as military leaders in the Sahel increasingly turn to Russia and reaffirm their sovereignty, a shift reflected in the renaming of streets and monuments that previously honored France.
