Food Security: Tinubu authorizes funding for 12 dam expansions In an effort to combat poverty, improve food security, and advance agricultural development across the country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sanctioned hundreds of billions of naira for the extension of 12 River Basin projects around Nigeria. In a statement released in Kano on Saturday, Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, the Director of Finance for the Hadejia Jama'are River Basin, revealed this and emphasized Tinubu's steadfast dedication to the agricultural development of Northern Nigeria.

Kwankwaso claims that the River Basins' expansion will boost Nigeria's agricultural productivity, reduce hunger, and greatly enhance food production. He praised Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, for making sure the funding for the initiatives aimed at revitalizing the River Basin was authorized. He added that both leaders are still devoted to national development ahead of the 2027 elections and that Bichi's commitment to the project is in line with President Tinubu's vision. Kwankwaso also mentioned the N150 billion set aside in the 2025 appropriation bill for the building of a railway line in Kano as part of the administration's larger development ambition. He called the project a game-changing endeavour that will boost trade, improve transportation, and stimulate regional economic growth.
