An officer in Calgary was accused of assault while on duty.

A Calgary Police Service  officer has been charged with assault with a weapon in connection with an on-duty incident on  January 4,  2024.

CPS said the incident  occurred after police responded to a call for service in the  Woodbine community.
Police say that during an  attempt to enter a residence,  an officer  used his  stun gun twice on a  man.
Police also argue that the force used by the officer was not reasonable or proportionate given the  circumstances. The daily email you need for  the biggest Calgary news. The CPS identified the officer as  Constable Nickolas Kerton,  37, who has been with the force for two  years.
He was suspended in February 2024 while the CPS Professional Standards Section conducted an investigation, including a review of  body camera  footage.
Following the investigation, he was  convicted of assault with a  weapon. Kerton's next court appearance is scheduled for Monday,  January 20,  2025.
The CPS said he remains suspended pending further review.
