Statement on Ottawa  moving away from its  ambitious and unattainable  goal of net zero  electricity by 2035:
After years of watching the  federal government gaslight Canadians  on the feasibility of achieving a  net zero electricity grid by 2030, we are  happy to see Ottawa finally admit that the  Alberta government's plan to achieve a  net zero electricity grid at carbon by 2050 is more  responsible. accessible and realistic  goal.

That said, the  federal government's comprehensive electricity regulations remain  completely unconstitutional  because they seek to regulate in an area of  exclusive provincial jurisdiction.  It also  requires producers to meet unreasonable and unattainable  intermediate targets  set by the federal government starting in  2035, which will still make electricity unaffordable for Canadian  households.

Therefore, Alberta will  prepare an immediate  legal challenge  to this electricity regulation, which it fully  expects to  win.

We propose a  faster and  less expensive alternative solution  that involves the  federal government completely abandoning any attempt to regulate or otherwise interfere with  Alberta's governance  of our provincial  energy grid.
