Calgary  bylaw violates freedom of  religion and  expression, but  justified, says Alberta  judge
Former mayoral candidate Larry Heather (@RobertLeaf4) intentionally violated the  city's "inclusionary" bylaw that  bars protesters from being within 100  feet of  drag queen events.
"I am the first person in  the entire city of Calgary to be convicted under this  safe and  comprehensive bylaw, but I did it to  prove its  constitutionality," Heather says.
The Court of Justice ruled that  Heather's rights were violated; however,  given the cost of policing and the potential for conflict, it determined that  "it was far better to  separate from the law."
Disappointed by the  decision, Heather is now appealing to the public for  help in filing an appeal:
"It's one thing to pay a $250 fine, but  for me  that doesn't accomplish anything,  it confirms that the  statute is valid, I want to challenge the context and validity of the  statute itself."
