Red Eagle, sometimes known as William Weatherford, was a Creek chief who lived from 1780 or 1781 to March 24, 1824. Southeast Indians intermarried with European traders and then colonial immigrants, leaving behind a large number of mixed-race descendants. Red Eagle's ancestry was a combination of French, Scots, and Creek.
He grew up as a Creek in the matrilineal country and became powerful there thanks to his father's trading contacts and his mother's famous Wind Clan. After demonstrating his fighting prowess, he was assigned the war name Hopnicafutsahia. The Creek War (1813–1814), sometimes referred to as the Red Stick War or the Creek Civil War, was a regional conflict that mostly occurred in Alabama and along the Gulf coast and involved rival Creek groups, European powers, and the United States concerned about the entry of European Americans onto Creek country, Red Eagle eventually became the leader of a group known as the "Red Sticks," who were determined to keep their land, way of life, and people safe from invaders.
The bigger opposition forces under General Andrew Jackson eventually clashed with Red Sticks's lesser soldiers. At the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, which took place close to present-day Dadeville, Alabama, the Red Sticks were soundly defeated, bringing the fight to a close. The terms that were drafted gave the Creek tribe a lot less land than they had before.
Chief Red Eagle is credited with saying, "Angry people want you to see how powerful they are."
Loving individuals want you to realize your own strength.
