Children as young as nine are included in the UK Police's "Non-Crime Hate Incidents" log.

Police in Britain are looking into name-calling events involving youngsters as young as nine, including those classified as "non-crime hate incidents" (NCHIs). Examples that have been recorded include two teenagers making comments about a peer's odour and a primary school student using a disparaging phrase.

The fact that more than 13,200 of these occurrences were reported in a single year raised questions about police resource allocation and free speech.

Critics say the practice is "absurd" and a waste of police resources, including Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp.
