Application Process and Timeline

The application process for the new grant program will be open to all Alberta union training centres recognized to deliver apprenticeship training, as well as labour unions directly involved in supporting Alberta's skilled trades sector. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with a deadline of October 15, 2025, for the first round of funding.

To ensure a fair and transparent process, a review committee comprised of representatives from Advanced Education, Jobs, Economy and Trade, and industry stakeholders will assess proposals based on the following criteria:

Alignment with high-demand trades and apprenticeship programs
Capacity to deliver high-quality training and instruction
Ability to increase apprenticeship seats and address labour market needs
Cost-effectiveness and value for taxpayer dollars
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in apprenticeship programs

Successful applicants will be notified by December 15, 2025, and funding will be disbursed in January 2026.

Benefits for Apprentices and Employers

The new grant program will not only provide more opportunities for Albertans to pursue a skilled trades career but also offer numerous benefits for apprentices and employers alike.

Apprentices will have access to high-quality training and instruction, leading to increased employability and higher earning potential. Employers will benefit from a larger pool of skilled tradespeople, reducing recruitment and training costs, and increasing productivity and competitiveness.

Industry Partnerships and Collaboration

Alberta's government recognizes the importance of industry partnerships and collaboration in addressing labour market needs. The new grant program will foster stronger relationships between unions, employers, and government to ensure that apprenticeship programs are aligned with industry needs and standards.

By working together, we can create a more skilled and resilient workforce, driving economic growth and prosperity for all Albertans.

Conclusion**

Alberta's government is committed to supporting working Albertans and meeting the labour market needs of today and the future. The new grant program for union training providers is a critical step in achieving this goal, and we look forward to working with our union partners to create more opportunities for apprenticeship training and drive economic growth in our province.

By investing in apprenticeship education and supporting our skilled trades sector, we are building a stronger, more resilient Alberta for generations to come.
