The Governor-General attended a celebration at the National Gallery of Australia to honor a remarkable addition to its collection: Edvard Munch's Man with Horse, a generous donation from philanthropist Geoff Ainsworth AM.

This significant contribution underscores the belief that exceptional art should be housed in public collections, allowing its beauty to be enjoyed by everyone.

Thanks to this generous gift and the diligent efforts of the Gallery team, led by National Gallery Council Chair Ryan Stokes AO and Director Dr. Nick Mitzevich, this masterpiece by one of the 20th century's most prominent artists is now displayed alongside Jackson Pollock's Blue Poles, enhancing the visitor experience.

The Governor-General conveyed her appreciation for the dedication and commitment shown in maintaining the National Gallery as a dynamic and accessible institution that nurtures a profound appreciation for both Australian and international art, while also reflecting our culture, history, and national identity.
