THe staff and volunteers at Community Services #1 in Canberra, along with the individuals and families benefiting from the centre's offerings, have created something truly remarkable—a community rooted in dignity and respect. From the moment anyone steps inside, they are enveloped in care.
 
The food bank, social support groups, aged care, and childcare services work to ease poverty, distress, and disadvantage, while friendships foster vital connections, conversations, and comfort against loneliness. A heartfelt thank you to CEO Simon Bennett and the entire team for graciously hosting the Governor-General at the centre, to the community for sharing their inspiring stories of how the centre has transformed their lives, and for preparing such a delightful morning tea featuring produce from the community garden. Additionally, a special thanks to Bruna, June, Audrey, and Marjorie for enhancing the Governor-General's knitting skills as they created blankets and teddy bears for the local hospital.

As Australia's first Governor-General from Canberra, it is truly special to connect with the individuals who embody the heart and soul of this local community—there's always an old schoolmate or a familiar face from around the corner to reconnect with, along with the opportunity to make many new friends.
