Iyami, also known as Awon Agbalagba, or Iyami Osoronga, or Eleye (owner of the birds), is the Great Female Power who has associated with Witchcraft and Wizards (Aje) and Witches (Oso) that bestow all good and evil on earth. control the balance of things on earth and have power over humans: they need to be appeased to allow us to change evil into good, so we usually do the Ipese, which is a special feeding for iyami; when a person is feeding them tando, the iyami take care of it like a mother because they like a friendly person. That's why it's important to feed Iyami regularly.

In the Odu Ifa Osa Meji Ifa explains to us what happened between the Iyami and humans: when humans (eniyan) and birds (eye) came to the land (Aye) from the sky (Orun) they made the sacred promise that they would never kill each other. Time passed and humans went hungry because there was no food for them and so they were dying one by one; Esu came to the humans and reminded them why they were dying with so many birds around? Humans decided to break their promise and started killing birds and eating them. The Eleyes became very angry and turned to Eledumare who said that humans were to blame and from that moment on the Eleyes or Iyami will have the power to interfere in the lives of humans and do whatever they want with them.
Human beings broke the promise, broke the balance and now they need Iyami's favour to avoid negativities.
Sometimes Ifa or Orisa divination will advise a person to gift Iyami with Ipese, but it is also good for a person to do it without divination.

They're going to be the best. :)
