🇷🇴 ROMANIAN COURT CRITICIZES CONSTITUTIONAL COURT FOR ELECTION ANNULMENT:
ABUSE OF POWER AND ILLEGALITY CONFIRMED The Ploiești Court of Appeal has determined that the Constitutional Court's (CCR) annulment of last year's presidential election was illegal, abusive, and baseless—an unequivocal denunciation addressing issues of power abuse and violations of citizens' voting rights. The ruling stated that the CCR's self-initiated decision to nullify the election, without any external request, was a clear violation of the law.

According to Romanian and European regulations, constitutional courts cannot intervene at will; they require formal requests from electoral participants. The CCR acted as if it had unrestricted authority, which it did not. To make matters worse, the CCR missed the deadline to examine the case, effectively invalidating the entire election, including the previously validated first round, without any timely legal justification. The supposed "frauds" cited by the CCR included allegations of social media manipulation and campaign spending irregularities—events that occurred before the voting took place. The court found no evidence to suggest that any of these factors influenced the election results. Additionally, this fiasco represented more than just a procedural error: it infringed upon the Romanian people's right to vote. The court referred to Romania's downgrade in the Democracy Index—from "flawed democracy" to "hybrid regime"—as evidence of the repercussions of this action. Cancelling the election undermined the sovereignty of the people and severely disrupted Romania's democratic processes. In summary, the CCR's decision to annul the election was illegal, anti-democratic, and a complete failure.
