Lisabi Agbongbo-Akala is a renowned historical figure and military strategist among the Egba people in present-day southwestern Nigeria. He was born in the 18th century in Itoku, Abeokuta, and later settled in Igbehin. Lisabi is revered for spearheading the Egba uprising against the oppressive rule of the Oyo Empire, which had imposed severe tributes and forced labor on the Egba communities.

To facilitate this rebellion, Lisabi established the Aaro society, a cooperative work group that discreetly united Egba men under the pretense of collaborative farming. This organization served as the backbone of the revolt, enabling Lisabi to train and mobilize troops without raising the suspicions of the Oyo authorities. Between 1775 and 1780, through a series of strategically planned guerrilla attacks, Lisabi and his followers successfully defeated the Oyo forces, resulting in the Egba's independence.

After these triumphs, Lisabi mysteriously vanished into the forest now known as Igbo Lisabi, which has contributed to the mystique surrounding his legacy. This forest is regarded as a sacred site and stands as a testament to his lasting impact. In recognition of his contributions, the Egba people hold the Lisabi Festival each year, a lively celebration that honors their liberation and cultural heritage.
