Enhancing Accountability and Good Governance in Kenya

This week, we are pleased to announce our support for the release of two significant reports that provide insights into governance, accountability, and the battle against corruption:

1. Rubber Meets the Road: An Assessment on the Impact of Anti-Corruption Laws and Institutions in Kenya – produced by Transparency International Kenya and Uraia Trust as part of the REAL II project. This report investigates:

- Deficiencies in Kenya's anti-corruption legislation and its enforcement
- Obstacles to accountability and ethical leadership
- The importance of public involvement in combating corruption

2. Living Accountability: The Cultural Roots of Governance and Utu in Kenya – authored by Tisa Kenya. This research delves into:

- The influence of historical and cultural traditions on governance in Kenya
- The strength of citizen-driven accountability initiatives, ranging from grassroots movements to digital activism by Gen Z
- The necessity for inclusive frameworks for public participation

Both reports emphasize that effective governance transcends mere laws and institutions; it fundamentally involves people, culture, and collective efforts.

To strengthen governance, it is essential to foster partnerships, encourage civic engagement, and uphold a commitment to ethical leadership.
