The Governor-General, along with Mr. Simeon Beckett SC, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Justices, Justices, and their partners from the highest courts of Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Canada, Quebec, and New Zealand at Government House for the 7th biennial Judicial Colloquium.

In her address, the Governor-General highlighted the contemporary landscape of Australia and the significance of care in shaping its civic values and institutions. These principles are mirrored in the artwork exhibited at Government House and resonate with the experiences of the 25,000 students who visit annually to gain insights into Australia's institutions and the vital role of the rule of law.

She also shared her reflections on the profound impact of her legal studies at ANU and the guidance she received from esteemed mentors, including Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG and former Governor-General Sir William Deane AC KBE KC.

Drawing inspiration from these prominent figures in Australian law, the Governor-General underscored the notion that justice transcends mere legalities, encompassing humanity, compassion, and care. She extended her best wishes to the Justices for a fruitful Colloquium and an enjoyable stay in Australia.

The Honourable Chief Justice Stephen Gageler AC also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to the attendees and anticipating the significant discussions that lay ahead.
