Zambia is leveraging its abundant resources of manganese, cobalt, and copper to manufacture batteries and transformers, positioning itself as a significant industrial force in Africa.

The country is committed to utilizing 100% of its local materials to achieve this ambition. Airumi Energy Zambia Ltd, a collaborative venture between Zambia and China, is at the forefront of this initiative. Situated in the Zambia-Jiangxi Multi-Facility Economic Zone, the facility has successfully produced over 50,000 automotive batteries within three months, starting from January 2025, with a daily production rate exceeding 500 batteries.e

In addition, Zambia has initiated the production of electrical transformers, further establishing its status as an emerging industrial power. This development is anticipated to satisfy local needs while also addressing regional and international market demands.

Zambia aspires to become a leading exporter in Africa by the year 2030. By effectively utilizing its natural resources and cultivating strategic partnerships, the nation is on a promising path toward realizing this objective.
