The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge longest bridge in the world

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, on October 23, 2018, the 55-kilometer-long world's longest sea bridge opened, linking Macau, Zhuhai, and Hong Kong as part of China's Greater Bay Area.

Hybrid design: Combines bridges, artificial islands and a 6.7-kilometer underwater tunnel for ships.

Goal: Reduce travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai to 45 minutes (from 4 hours) and promote regional integration.

Construction: It took nine years to build, used 420,000 tons of steel (enough to build 60 Eiffel Towers) and was built to withstand earthquakes and typhoons.

Price: Estimated $20 billion.

Despite initial criticism over its cost and use, it is a symbol of China's engineering prowess and regional development.
