In six provinces and three territories, Remembrance Day 2024 is a legislative holiday; in four provinces, it is observed as an observance.

What Takes Place on the Day of Remembrance?
In the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day, a lot of individuals dress in fake poppies. White poppies advocate for non-military actions in crisis situations, while red poppies honour the memories of those who lost their lives. Special church services are planned for November 11. These frequently consist of two minutes of silence at 11:00 (or 11am), the playing of "The Last Post," and a reading of the fourth verse of the "Ode of Remembrance." Wreaths are placed at nearby war memorials following the service.


In accordance with rigorous tradition, the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Ontario, hosts the official Canadian national ceremonies. There is a service and representatives of the military forces lay wreaths. The bones of a Canadian soldier who was never recognized but died in France during World War I were interred in the National War Memorial's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in May 2000.


Public members have since placed letters, photos, and poppies on the tomb. In Canada, similar ceremonies and gatherings take place. Special assemblies, lessons, and presentations about military conflicts and those who lost their lives in them are held by certain schools that are open on Remembrance Day.
