Notifying the Calgary Police Service of ASIRT's decision to remove the campus protest camp

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) inquiry into the dismantling of the protest camp at the University of Calgary has concluded, Minister of Public Safety & Emergency Services Mike Ellis has informed Calgary Police Service Chief Mark Neufeld.

ASIRT has determined that the claim of "serious" injuries cannot be confirmed using the criteria of "serious" that it frequently uses when looking into police-caused harm.

Consequently, the issue is no longer under ASIRT's purview, and the CPS Professional Standards Section will now be responsible for handling complaints pertaining to the University of Calgary event. Eight complaints have been filed with the Service thus far.

ASIRT was given the CPS's and the Edmonton Police Service's complete cooperation throughout the inquiry. This includes sending complaints to the agency's professional standard sections and providing access to body worn camera footage when available.

We appreciate ASIRT's work on this issue and value the impartial supervision they provide.

We are still dedicated to supporting safe, legal, and nonviolent protests while working to lessen their negative effects on the neighbourhood.
