The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, has assured the Borno State Government of increased military support to tackle rising security threats in the North-East. He made this known in Maiduguri during a visit to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa and other top military officers.

Badaru said President Bola Tinubu directed the visit to assess the situation and provide needed resources. He confirmed that daily updates would be sent to the President and pledged stronger focus on the region. He also sought Zulum's input on improving military operations, citing his local expertise.

Governor Zulum welcomed the move, expressing hope for improved security. He promised continued political support, commended outgoing commanders and called for more troops to secure forests and borders. He stressed the need for sustained military action to maintain recent gains.

Badaru also revealed plans to establish additional military formations in the region, including a new brigade in Monguno and a forward operating base in Gwoza. He noted that these formations would enhance the military's operational capacity and enable them to respond more effectively to emerging security threats.

In response, Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to the federal government for its commitment to addressing the security challenges in the state. He reiterated the need for a collective effort to defeat the insurgents, emphasizing the importance of intelligence sharing, community involvement, and economic empowerment.

The meeting also featured a comprehensive briefing by the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Christopher Musa, who presented an overview of the current security situation in the North-East. He highlighted the successes recorded by the military in recent times, including the destruction of several terrorist camps and the neutralization of many insurgents.

However, Musa also acknowledged the challenges facing the military, including the porous nature of the borders, the lack of adequate infrastructure, and the need for more equipment and logistics. He appealed for continued support from the federal government and the state government to enable the military to accomplish its mission.
