" In Smoky Lake County, police have recovered a stolen truck, trailer, snowmobile, and 35 firearms from a property on March 19, 2025, leading to charges against a local man. According to the RCMP, officers initiated an investigation into stolen property at a farm located at 12573 Township Road 594. With a search warrant in hand, they uncovered a stolen 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck, a 2013 snowmobile, a trailer, and approximately 35 firearms. RCMP Sgt. Anita Doktor explained at a news conference on Tuesday morning that officers employed various investigative techniques, including a bait trap. This method involves leaving a traceable item in areas where thefts typically occur in order to link it back to the perpetrator. Doktor noted a recent increase in property-related crimes, such as break-ins, which have had a notable impact on the community. However, she expressed confidence in the progress being made in stolen property investigations. "We treat every case as an important investigation and strive to reduce property crime step by step. We're engaged in ongoing projects daily and stay committed to the effort," Doktor remarked. She also highlighted the cooperation between the Smoky Lake detachment, the eastern Alberta crime reduction unit, and neighboring detachments from St. Paul, Lac La Biche, Redwater, and Two Hills, collaborating whenever they receive relevant information. The RCMP reported that the accused, Huk, has no prior history of property crimes. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday in Boyle.
Smoky Lake RCMP is urging anyone with information regarding criminal activity in their area to come forward.
