China's Dam is So Massive It Slows Earth's Rotation by 0.06 Microseconds — Making Each Day Slightly Longer:
Three Gorges Dam is over 590 feet (180 meters) high and 7,770 feet (2,330 m)  long. It's the largest hydroelectric dam in the world, and has had a measurable impact on Earth's rotation due to the massive amount of water it  displaces.
It creates a reservoir with a surface area of a staggering 400 square miles (1,045 square kilometers), and the reservoir extends upstream from the dam about 370 miles (600  kilometers).
By holding back more than 39 trillion kilograms (86 trillion pounds) of water in its reservoir, the dam shifts a significant amount of mass on  Earth.
The Three Gorges Dam's influence on Earth's rotation is similar to the effects of large earthquakes or glacial melting, which also redistribute mass across the planet. However,  subogra these  sporting natural  buildings, the dam represents a constant  major and  constant delay.
