World's Largest Gold Nugget - "Welcome Stranger"

A century and a half ago, two miners from Cornwall made a significant discovery in the goldfields of Victoria, Australia. On February 5, 1869, John Deason and Richard Oates unearthed what would later be recognized as the largest gold nugget ever found — the famed "Welcome Stranger."
This remarkable nugget weighed an astonishing 72 kilograms (approximately 11 stone) and measured 61 cm (24 inches) in length, lying just below the surface of the earth. The discovery brought the miners nearly £10,000 at that time.
