The United States is collaborating with our esteemed partners to strengthen regional security and combat transnational crime. Together, we are addressing issues such as illegal immigration, violence, and contraband, while also working to prevent financial scams that target vulnerable Americans.
In Jamaica, Secretary Rubio engaged with Prime Minister Holness, highlighting the robust relationship between our two nations. He stated, "I can think of no better friend in the Caribbean and frankly in the Western Hemisphere than Jamaica."
Additionally, in Jamaica, the Secretary held discussions with leaders from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and Haiti—key partners essential to enhancing the security of our shared region and safeguarding both American citizens and our allies.
In Guyana, Secretary Rubio acknowledged the impressive economic transformation under President Ali's leadership. He signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening U.S.-Guyana security cooperation and tackling regional challenges. This collaboration is designed to fortify both the U.S. and Caribbean security.
Secretary Rubio also traveled to Suriname to meet with President Santokhi and Foreign Minister Ramdin. Suriname is recognized as a vital strategic economic ally in our region, especially within the energy sector.
