Today, the Governor-General received a recommendation from the Prime Minister to prorogue Parliament and dissolve the House of Representatives in preparation for the Federal Election scheduled for May 3.

The Prime Minister personally visited the Governor-General at Government House to deliver this advice, accompanied by a formal letter. This letter outlines the timeline for the issuance of writs, the closure of electoral rolls, the deadline for nominations, the polling day, and the final date for the return of the writs.
