Della Sonya Beyak was raised in Winnipegosis, where she distinguished herself as an exceptional figure skater, participated in the 4-H club, and was a member of the Sopilka Ukrainian Dancers.

From a young age, Della aspired to become a police officer. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from the University of Manitoba before joining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in 1988. A fellow troop member at Depot remarked that she "embodied optimism, hope, and excitement for a new career."
Constable Beyak was assigned to Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. On March 15, 1989, while responding to a call for assistance, she maneuvered her vehicle across the center line to see if she could overtake a slow-moving transport truck that was obscuring her view with blinding snow. Unfortunately, as she did so, she collided head-on with the Coroner who had just departed from a collision scene.
Constable Della Beyak (Reg #40153) was only 21 years old at the time of her passing. She is interred in the cemetery at Winnipegosis and holds the distinction of being the first woman to be honored on the RCMP Honour Roll.
