According to StatCan, "Oil and gas extraction contributed the most to growth, rising 3.1% in October." As operations at a number of sites resumed after maintenance in August and September, several of them achieved record levels of production, resulting in a 5.2% increase in oil sands extraction during the month, the highest monthly growth rate since December 2020. Additionally, in October 2024, oil and gas extraction (apart from oil sands) increased 1.1% as a result of a gain in natural gas extraction that correlated with increased natural gas storage and exports, more than offsetting a decrease in crude petroleum extraction.
