Loto-Québec said in a news release that Jean Lamontagne, a 60-year-old Montrealer, held one of two winning tickets in the Dec. 3 drawing that allowed him to win $40 million.
The other ticket was sold in Alberta.
Lamontagne was at work when he decided to check his tickets and discovered his grand prize. "He initially shared the news with his employers, specifying that he would take advantage of this windfall to retire earlier than expected," the press release says.
"Being very close to his colleagues, Mr. Lamontagne returned to his workplace a few days later to offer them a pizza lunch and say goodbye."

Mr. Lamontagne plans to invest some of the money in real estate and buy multiplexes for his children, brother and in-laws.
He also plans to go to Europe for a long trip.
"We are always pleased to award a first prize, but it is even more comfortable to do it just before the holidays," said Loto-Québec President and CEO Jean-François Bergeron.
